![]() 5/9/08 NEWS Pre-registration is open for the autocrosses at Langley Speedway on May 25 and VMP on July 6. The new 2008 NASA-X series rules and car classing documents have been posted under "Resources" below. SUMMARY Autocross is the most entry-level form of sports car racing and has taken place all over the world since the 1950's. Participants simply drive as fast as possible one at a time against the clock on a twisty course laid out with cones on a large paved surface. Top speeds are usually less than 65 miles per hour because the activity is intended to encourage car control and driver skill at real-world speeds. NASA Mid-Atlantic has held autocrosses since 1998. In 2007 we ran a record 12-event championship and hosted our first autocross school in conjunction with Evolution. Our events are open to any street licensed driver in nearly any street or race car, utilizing a classification system designed to produce close competition. Victory and defeat are often separated by mere thousandths of a second. Entry fees start at $35 for 6 to 10 timed runs. Since 2006 we have also held significantly faster autocrosses ("Circuitcrosses") on the 1.1 mile infield Patriot Course at VIRginia International Raceway, for double championship points. Novice classroom sessions first ("Circuitschools") are required for beginners. Circuitcross entry fees start at $70 per driver. Also we usually host several twilight "arrive and drive" kart enduros on the wonderful 5/8 mile Plantation Valley Kart Track at VIR. 9-horsepower karts and helmets are provided of course. Entry fees are $35 per team per half hour of racing. We are an organization focused on safety, education, and fun. C'mon out and drive with NASA Mid-Atlantic in 2008!
