presented by ![]() 02/08/10 NEWS Registration is open for the Sat Feb 20 twilight kart enduro #1 at VIR as well as the Sat Mar 27 twilight kart enduro #2 at VIR and the Sun Mar 28 circuitcross #1 at VIR! PROGRAM SUMMARY Autocross is the most entry-level form of sports car racing and has taken place all over the world since the 1950's. Participants simply drive as fast as possible one at a time against the clock on a twisty course laid out with cones on a large paved surface. Top speeds are usually less than 65 miles per hour because the activity is intended to encourage car control and driver skill at real-world speeds. NASA Mid-Atlantic has held autocrosses since 1998. We usually host between six and twelve championship rounds each season as well as at least one autocross school in conjunction with Evolution. Our events are open to any street licensed driver in nearly any street or race car, utilizing a classification system designed to produce close competition. Victory and defeat are often separated by mere thousandths of a second. Entry fees start at $30 for six to twelve timed runs per event. Since 2006 we have also held significantly faster autocrosses ("Circuitcrosses") on the 1.1 mile infield Patriot Course at VIRginia International Raceway, for double championship points. Novice classroom sessions first ("Circuitschools") are required for beginners. Circuitcross entry fees start at $60 per driver. Also we usually host a bunch of twilight "arrive and drive" kart enduros at VIR and Summit Point each season. Karts and safety equipment are provided of course. Kart entry fees start at $30 per team per half hour of racing. NASA nonmembers are welcome to participate at all our events, but may need to purchase a $10 temporary membership for insurance reasons. We are an organization focused on safety, education, and fast fun. C'mon out and drive with NASA Mid-Atlantic Autocross in 2010!
